Market update for July 8 ,2013

Precious Metals:

Gold futures prices today fell by 0.30 per cent to Rs 26,064 per 10 grams as speculators
offloaded their positions in tandem with a weak global trend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold prices for delivery in August fell by Rs 79, or 0.30 percent, to Rs 26,064 per 10 grams in business turnover of 1,660 lots.

Similarly, metal prices for delivery in October declined by Rs 67, or 0.26 per cent, to Rs 26,174 per ten grams in 56 lots.

Market analysts said the fall in gold futures was mostly attributed to a weak trend overseas ahead of US jobs data that may add to signs of improving economy, fuelling speculation that the Federal Reserve will scale back monetary stimulus.

Besides, strengthening dollar also putting pressure on gold prices, they said.

Meanwhile, gold prices fell 0.6 per cent to $1,242.50 an ounce in Singapore.

Base Metals & Energy:

Taking weak cues from global markets, aluminium prices fell 0.51 per cent to Rs 107.25 per kg in futures trading today as speculators offloaded their positions.

Further, sluggish demand in the domestic spot markets also weighed on the metal prices.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, aluminium for delivery in July declined by 55 paise, or 0.51 per cent, to Rs 107.25 per kg in business turnover of 201 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in August traded lower by 50 paise, or 0.46 per cent, to Rs 108.70 per kg in seven lots.

Zinc futures prices today fell 0.62 per cent to Rs 111.50 per kg as speculators reduced positions, amid
sluggish domestic demand and weak global trend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc prices for delivery in July declined by 70 paise, or 0.62 per cent,to Rs 112.20 per kg in business turnover of 530 lots.

Likewise, the metal prices for delivery in August traded lower by 65 paise, or 0.57 per cent, to Rs 113.50 per kg in 267 lots.

Agro Outlook:

Mentha oil prices fell by Rs 7.30 to Rs 948 per kg in futures trade today as speculators locked in gains at prevailing levels amid slackened spot demand.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, mentha oil prices for delivery in July declined by Rs 7.30, or 0.76 percent, to Rs 948 per kg in business turnover of 632 lots.

Likewise, the oil prices for delivery in August contract traded lower by Rs 6.90, or 0.71 per cent, to Rs 961.90 per kg in 98 lots.

Continued its losing streak, chana prices fell further by Rs 34 to Rs 3,063 per quintal in futures trading today as speculators engaged in trimming positions, driven by higher supplies from producing regions.

Besides, subdued demand in the spot market also put pressure.

At the National Commodity and Derivative Exchange ( NCDEX), chana for delivery in July month fell further by Rs 34, or 1.10 per cent to Rs 3,063 per quintal with an open interest of 1,17,940 lots.

Similarly, the commodity for delivery in August contract lost Rs 31, or 0.31 per cent to Rs 3,138 per quintal in 1,17,650 lots.
